Monash Health gets infrastructure oversight with AssetFuture

About Monash Health

Monash Health is Victoria’s largest public health service. It provides high-quality care to one-quarter of Melbourne’s population, across the entire lifespan from pre-birth to end-of-life. One of Monash Health’s primary assets is Moorabbin Hospital. Opened in 1975, it is home to the Monash Cancer Centre, one of Victoria’s premier integrated cancer treatment centres, with radiotherapy services provided in longstanding partnership with the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre.

The problem

Moorabbin Hospital operates at the cutting edge of oncology treatment and research. As a large (147 bed) and long-established facility, it has accrued many assets over its forty years of operation. Moorabbin has an up-to-date Asset Register that is in continuous state of development and takes a mature approach to data.

At Moorabbin Hospital, compliance with the various healthcare maintenance standards is a priority for us. Working with AssetFuture has helped to develop the maturity of our whole of life asset planning system.

The solution

Monash Health decided to partner with AssetFuture to get a more accurate perspective of its assets and their maintenance costs. AssetFuture uses a cloud-based platform to leverage data and drive decisions across the lifecycle of assets, large and small.

AssetFuture first assessed the existing information to ascertain gaps. A new data collection process was then implemented to ensure information that was accurate, timely and relevant.

Sujeevan Panagoda, Director of Engineering and Infrastructure at Monash Health explains: “The team from AssetFuture assessed the condition of our assets efficiently and professionally, making the data collection incredibly fast – it took just 8 days.

The results

Once Monash Health had the right data it was able to better establish a clear picture of the overall condition and associated costs for the infrastructure of the whole building, not just engineering. AssetFuture enabled a much more holistic perspective of the whole site: both building and infrastructure.

Everything is now ranked at the same scale, which means Monash Health now has the right tools and information to make a business case for support.

Additionally, the visualisation of the data has meant the team are able to articulate Asset Intelligence in a way that is easy to understand.

We’re very satisfied with the outcome of using AssetFuture. Communication and support have been very strong throughout the whole process, and there was very fast speed to delivery”, Sujee says.

The future

Going forward, Monash Health continues to review its AMP for Moorabbin Hospital and is much closer to understanding the life cycle costs for asset management.

AssetFuture has really helped us get a clear picture of our overall asset condition, by efficiently collecting accurate data It puts us in a much better position to develop our Asset Management Plans, and we see great value in continuing our collaboration with AssetFuture.
